According to the National Weather Service, heat is considered one of the deadliest weather events  we experience. People 50 years of age and over accounted for over 67 per cent of heat related deaths. Heat concerns also focus on the very young, athletes, outdoor workers and those with medical conditions that can deteriorate quickly in high heat and humidity.

Every year the energy released in lightning affects everything from people and animals to events and activities. Lightning causes deaths, injuries and significant property damage. It is estimated that one out of every 57 insurance claims is lightning related. Many of us think we know how to avoid the electricity, heat and  other effects of lightning; but do we?

Hurricanes don't just happen at the coast. Communities ranging from large cities to small towns can be affected by a variety of influences relating to tropical weather. Heavy rains, tornadoes, flooding, mud and rock slides can occur hundreds of miles from where a storm makes landfall.  Proper planning in both coastal and  inland area is essential.
